Manchester United are serious about signing Giorgio Scalvini and reports indicate they even advanced with an offer for the Italian international.

Last night, we covered a story from France stating that the Red Devils are in pole position to lure the Azzurri center half from Atalanta.

Renowned Italian journalist, Alfredo Pedulla, has revealed that Man Utd moved in with an offer to lure Scalvini but it was turned down by the La Dea (via Sport Italia).

The famous transfer expert, who confirmed the deal of Amrabat to United in the summer, stated:

“There was a proposal from Manchester United for Giorgio Scalvini, rejected by Atalanta. It will take at least 60 million (£51.6million) to take him away from Bergamo, but in this session he will not leave, like Ederson and Koopmeiners.”

At the age of 20, Scalvini has already played 78 games for Atalanta in all competitions and also made 7 appearances for the senior national side.

Italy have been drawn in the group of death at the European Championships with Spain, Croatia and Albania. The youngster is expected to be a key part of the squad that will look to defend the title in Germany in the summer.

Man Utd’s defense has been a disaster in the current campaign and in all fairness, they need to sign a top defender in the current transfer window.

Therefore, Atalanta’s stance of not selling £51.6million-rated Scalvini this month should be a concern for United, who must look elsewhere to reinforce the backline before the winter window closes in just over two weeks.
