Gabriel Magalhaes has lauded William Saliba and shared how the pair will often communicate while on the pitch together at the heart of the Arsenal defence.
The Arsenal pair have formed one of the most impressive centre-back partnerships right now. Gabriel has been a stalwart of the side since his move to the Emirates. But it has been a much more interesting journey for William Saliba.
Saliba has been a fan favourite almost since the moment he signed for Arsenal. But he had to be patient before forcing his way into Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Emirates.
Gabriel Magalhaes lauds William Saliba
The 22-year-old went out on loan on a few occasions. And there seemed to be a couple of times where Saliba was destined to leave Arsenal permanently.
But ahead of last season, Saliba finally got his chance. And he has proved why Arsenal supporters were so excited about his potential. Saliba has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world right now. And it is frightening to think that he does not turn 23 until next month.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Gabriel Magalhaes provided an insight into how it is to play alongside the Frenchman.
“Mostly we speak French,” he said. “I spent a lot of time in France with Lille so it’s easier if we communicate in French. He is obviously an amazing player. I learn a lot from him every day. When we need to be serious about things, we are.”
Arsenal have two stalwarts for years to come
There is arguably little reason why Gabriel and Saliba cannot stay together for a long time to come. The Brazilian is the elder of the two, and he only turned 26 in December.
Arsenal have been a lot more assured this season. And they should presumably continue to improve as they become even more familiar with what Mikel Arteta wants.
Arsenal fans know better than most what a rock-solid defence can do for a team. And Saliba and Gabriel are amongst the very best around right now.
