Jadon Sancho jokingly apologised to Borussia Dortmund staff after sealing a move back to the club.
The Manchester United forward penned a six-month loan deal with the German side earlier this week. It signals his return to action after being banished from the Red Devils’ first-team under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
While he will have been keen to get back to action for Dortmund, his medical appears to have been completed just before midnight on Wednesday – with the move confirmed on Thursday. A video shared by the German side shows Sancho apologising, with a voice off-camera heard saying “latest medical check ever”, to which the forward replied: “Sorry guys, I’m sorry.”
The video then gives a true insight into how late Sancho’s testing was – a clock at Dortmund’s training ground displaying the time as 23:41. Despite his delayed medical, the United will be aiming to make a swift return to action.
His second debut for the club could potentially come on Saturday afternoon against Darmstadt away from home. Speaking after his move back to the Signal Iduna Park, he said: “When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like ‘coming home’.
“I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge. I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”
United boss Erik ten Hag has also spoken out on Sancho’s return to Dortmund. Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Tottenham, the Dutchman said: “I hope he’s doing well, so I wish him the best of good luck. That’s it. I hope he’s doing well and he’ll be a success.”
Sancho will be hoping to recapture his stunning form at Dortmund. After signing from Manchester City, he went on to score 50 goals and provide 64 assists in all competitions in 137 appearances.
That form helped Dortmund win the German Cup during the 2020/21 season. Sancho was not able to continue his excellent form after moving to Man United.
He has made 82 appearances for the Red Devils since his big-money move in 2021. He has scored just 12 goals for the club in that time.
