Erik ten Hag has vowed to ‘deal with’ Marcus Rashford after the Englishman was dropped by the Dutchman.

Rashford wasn’t part of the squad that travelled to Wales for their FA Cup clash with Newport County on Sunday. Ten Hag confirmed that Rashford had reported ill, but it was now an internal issue that Ten Hag would deal with.

Speaking to the BBC ahead of the game, Ten Hag said: “He reported ill.” However, Ten Hag then expanded on his answer when he was questioned about reports he had been spotted in a nightclub.

Ten Hag continued: “Let’s just say it’s an internal matter. I deal with it.” The reporter then asked Ten Hag if he had reassurance that Rashford wasn’t at the nightclub.

And he responded: “So listen, internal matter… internal matter.” Rashford was believed to be in Northern Ireland to see his pal and former academy team-mate Ro-Shaun Williams, who plays for Larne FC.

Images emerged on social media of Rashford in Thompsons Garage nightclub – Rashford then jetted back to the UK via private jet. Ten Hag said on Friday that Rashford was ill – but he has since changed his stance, confirming it was an internal matter.

Rashford has already been in trouble with Ten Hag for partying after his side were battered by Manchester City. “I spoke with him about it. It’s unacceptable. He apologised and that is it. For us, it’s an internal matter. He’s very motivated to put things right. He’s totally with us,” Ten Hag said.

“He has made a mistake but that doesn’t say he’s not fitting in. I see him every day in training, what he’s doing, I know.”
