Manchester United legend Paul Scholes heaped praise on three players following the 2-1 Premier League win at Aston Villa on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils registered a third straight league victory yesterday after a solid performance against Unai Emery’s side on the road.
The club had a deserved a 1-0 lead at the interval. Rasmus Hojlund scored following a wonderful headed assist from Harry Maguire.
Douglas Luiz got Villa back into the game shortly after the hour mark, but United had the last laugh with another late Scott McTominay goal.
McTominay rose highest to find the net from a brilliant Diogo Dalot cross. Speaking after the game, Scholes was impressed with three players.
The Red Devils legend said that Casemiro’s return is a ‘big plus’ for the Red Devils and added that Maguire was ‘very good’ in both boxes.
McTominay was also lauded by the former United star. Scholes said that he has been a real threat and has been making a ‘big difference’ off the bench.
He told Premier League productions: “That could be a really big win when it comes to the end of the season. United are in a decent position; the team look OK.”
“Casemiro coming in is a big plus, the form of Maguire, in both boxes he was very good today, and McTominay has been a real threat when he’s come on. He’s making a big difference to the team.”
United have moved within six points off fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur after the victory over Villa. They now have a genuine chance to qualify for the Champions League.
The club are also five points adrift of Aston Villa in fifth. The position could also be enough to qualify for the Champions League if the remaining English clubs fare well in the European competitions.
Hence, there is a lot to play for in the league. Manager Erik ten Hag will want the winning streak to keep going. They should be favourites to beat Luton Town at Kenilworth Road this weekend.
