Bayern Munich have now confirmed that Matthijs de Ligt is unhappy – amid reports Arsenal are plotting a summer move.

It was Christoph Freund – Director of Football at the Allianz Arena – who made the comments.

So, what was said about Matthijs de Ligt amid reports Arsenal are considering a bid? Let’s take a look…

De Ligt unhappy at Bayern Munich
Well, it was Football Transfers who claimed that Arsenal have held internal discussions about signing the Netherlands international this summer.

De Ligt is currently out of favour under Thomas Tuchel – starting just eight games from a possible 21 in the Bundesliga this season.

Now, Freund has confirmed that the Dutchman is unhappy with his role in Munich.

The Austrian is quoted by Georg Holzner of Kicker as saying: “We can understand his disappointment but we are happy to have Matthijs. Here at Bayern there’s competition, he knows that and he’s being professional as always.”

De Ligt is Bayern Munich’s third most expensive player in history behind Harry Kane and Lucas Hernandez – he cost £65.6m when arriving from Juventus back in July 2022.

De Ligt move could see Kiwior leave Arsenal
If Arsenal do manage to bring De Ligt to north London, it would raise question marks about Jakub Kiwior’s role at the Emirates Stadium – in our view at least.

A story from Calciomercato claimed that the Poland international is unhappy with the amount of playing time Mikel Arteta affords him.

Kiwior has made just five starts in the Premier League this season from a possible 24 – and there was also interest from Napoli throughout January.

Therefore, if Arteta and Edu add more competition for the Arsenal No.15 by signing De Ligt, it would not be a surprise to see him leave this summer.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the Bayern Munich No.4 could depart this summer if his situation under Tuchel stays the same.
